Default 3. Street portrait: A few questions.

What should I do when I go for Street portrait?

1. Should I ask the person before or after?
2. Can I publish without asking?
3. What is allowed?
4. What is not allowed?

Thanks

I think the answers will only be opinions and those will vary. Also laws may vary fro country to country. So here is my opinion and seems to work well for me.

First let me draw a vague line between shooting "street" and "Street Portrait" (I prefer the term environmental portrait) An environmental portrait is where the individual is the dominate subject. Shooting "street" the individual is only a part of a larger overall composition. Again opinions may vary.

When shooting "street" I never ask or tell unless I am asked, then I am truthful and if objections are raised I will not use image for anything but remembrances..

When shooting an "environmental Portrait" I will try to get a few captures, then talk to the individual and explain what I am doing and what my intentions are. If they are willing I will continue if not I go elsewhere and keep the images only for the purpose of personal remembrances.

Why this approach? That is the way I want to be treated.
