Default need help shuffling people around

I got a good family portrait shot of some cousins with 3 generations, however, one of the kids absolutely did not want to be in the photo so I had him with his dad just off to the side and planned on trying to photoshop them into place later. The problem I am running into is that when I get him isolated and cut out to move him, his size just drops to a thumbnail and there is nothing I can go to get it up to full size. I have been searching for tips in youtube and they show how to put something into a background. I have been using photoshop elements 7 to try and do the work. I will get the photo in here tomorrow and would love some points into the right direction of where to find the right steps to move them.

It sounds like the child was at a difference distance from you than he would have been if included in the group. You might be able to resize him before pasting in but you may find that there is too much difference in quality to make it work.

Best to show us the pictures though.

Is that with the father and son pasted in? If so, I'd be inclined to leave it as it is (or perhaps trim out some of the empty space over on the right). They just look like they are standing further forward but it doesn't look unnatural.

actually no, this is the raw shot that has had anything done to it. The look I was going to try and do was to try and layer him in with his wife on the right and then do a layer of them over the top again so it appeared like he would be standing just behind them on the right side. I have been able to get the templates set aside of him and the group but when I try to place him where I want him, he shows up as a thumbnail size on the picture and I am not able to adjust his size in the picture. Any suggestions or links to go to on some better explanation on how to do that would be greatly appreciated.

Check the resolution of the 2 photos. Sounds like the thumbnail photo may have been cropped or saved somehow at a lower resolution.

hope this helps.
