Hi there,
I have done some night club photography in the past, I usually took my 24mm prime lens with me for nice wide use. Another thing to consider is the low light conditions. If you are going for portrait shots of friends standing together flash is also a viable choice. Remember to not slow down too much with shutter speed and bring glass with a big aperture (I use f1.4). If you do slow the the shutter speed down considerably you can actually make some nice effects. Good luck!!
