Default Wedding Photos

Hi,
I am looking for someone to shoot some wedding photos of our wedding August 8th, at Banville & Jones on St. Marys.
It is an unconventional wedding...start 7:30 with ceremony, followed by wine tasting and dinner.
Was really wanting to find someone who does hobby photograpy rather than professional.
We would like nice pictures to capture the day !! without breaking the bank. The event is small 14 people in attendance including bride & groom.

Any interest

I only saw one response to your post, and it really missed the obvious which you probably already discovered. Using those settings outdoors would usually result in a considerable overexposure. A good starting place on a sunny day is a shutter speed of 1/ISO at f/16. Adjust from there for cloudy days, open shade etc.

As far as indoors, that is completely dependent on the amount of available light. There is no universal starting point for manual settings indoors. Use your camera's meter.

Depth of field, focus and noise issues are secondary to getting the exposure correct.

Really nice tips and discussion.

I had taken a few snaps of my friend's wedding last year. Some of them came out really well while for a few i had to use my camera's built in flash. I own Nikon P90 and I want to know which would be the best mode to taken events such as wedding, birthday parties, etc. Should I use auto mode or switch to shutter/aperture/manual mode. Also, what would be a good aperture/shutter/ISO/white balance combination to get good pictures. Appreciate the help.

A good thing to do is have all the above tips laminated on an index card in your gear as a checklist and read it over the night before. I also have a little album of ideas that I'll look at before I go to an event.

There are the more technical mistakes, like shooting with the wrong white balance or forgetting to change the ISO for the conditions.

A smile and a good attitude and the knowledge that you're the photographer, and that means that you kinda get to boss some of the people around so that you get the right shot.

Hi,
I am not new to the digital photography, however, can’t rate myself as a professional photographer, still learning on the advances techniques. I am highly impressed with the knowledge of Ken and Nicole. Last January, we hired two professional photographers for my younger brother's wedding and I was asked by everyone to take pics on my own as they have seen pics that I took in the previous family weddings and different events. I took 892 pics (all RAW) in 4 days and I would say 90% of them turned out very good. Plus point that I had was that being a family member I had access to everywhere, anytime...... All pics were taken with Canon EOS D500, 18-200 IS f3.5-5.6 and a third party flash which worked very well. I believe in one thing, more than the equiment it's the hand behind the camera which take good pics.... people especially like Ken who has spent all his life in this field.

Only thing where I am lacking, rather improving is the post adjustments in photoshop. With Canon DPP software, we still have limited control over RAWs.

I am posted at East Timor since 2007 and took nice landscapes especially sunsets in the Asia Pacific region, will upload them soon on the forum photo album for your valuable comments/suggestions.

Warm regards

Tahir
