For the first one try focussing (centre point only) on the eyes and recomposing and possibly use a smaller aperture. What shutter speed and aperture did you use?
For the second one if you want everybody in focus you will need to use a smaller aperture to increase your depth of field. I would try F11 or even possibly F16. What were your settings for this shot?
