Thank you all for your replies. I think I'll go for the 24-70 2.8 as its a lens that I've been after for quite a while. I was hankering after 24-105 purely on the reviews I've been reading on the internet and it just really swamped my mind.

I'd never heard the term "crop-body" before so presumably that's the Canon 40d and Canon 550D which are the bodies that I use most often although I do own a Canon 300d which I rarely use because its just sooooo slow.

My husband and I went out for dinner last night on our wedding anniversary (14 years!) and he said that I really need to be clear on what lens I really want and not spend the money on a lens NOW just because we have the money available for something cheaper because I am impatient to wait and save a bit more for something really outstanding and he's right.

He's still baffled why I got the Sigma 70-300 lens last Christmas when I already had a Tamron 28-300 but yet again I was swayed by the raving reviews on-line and also because SusanH1970 has one and I thought that because she takes awesome photos with her lens I could too... I know what your thinking LOL!

inkista - That's such an awesome shot!! I can really see my step-dad in a shot just like that with all this stamp albums all spread out.

Yeah! I know! It's like giving a boy a football and expecting him to be the next David Beckham

I was laughing at the "she takes awesome photos with that lens" part.
