I would just go for a really neutral setting. If we are talking about a 6 year old, maybe do the photoshoot on a playground or in the park.

Well, the OP was asking about backgrounds for a shoot with a little girl, that really isn't a girly girl. which my advice would be to spend some time with the girl, and get to know her, and shoot in her invironment. You don't need a lot of props to get shots of kids having fun.

Then the thread moved on to that late 70's early 80's tv show, The Facts of Life.
