I'm having a baby photo shoot this weekend. The baby is 2 months old and I really want to get those sharp close ups of her feet, hands, and just overall. In one of my previous photo shoots I have used 50mm lens, but didn't really get that much of detail as I wanted. This time I'm thinking to rent either Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro USM or Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM. Any recommendations I can get from experts our there? Perhaps there is another lens I should consider?
Thank you. |

If you want to do close ups the 100mm would be the better bet.

You are not going to be able to get close enough with a standard 85mm.
The 100 2.8 IS Macro is the shizzle. Good working distance, narrow angle and focuses up close. Not too mention uber sharp.

Maybe for a cheaper option.... Try the Extension tubes meant for macro. Not as expensive as a new lens. The 12mm seems to do an ok job on my 50m 1.8, but there is a loss of light of about a stop or so, and a little quality, but might be ok for a 'softer' baby shoot.
