Props for Children's Photography

Hi all,

Just wanted to get some recommendations on the websites or stores you like to purchase props for children's photography - age newborn to 12 years old. Preferably inexpensive. I'm looking for hair bands, wraps, cocoons, tutus, small chair or beds, etc.

There is a group on flickr called Prop Insanity! They may have some good ideas for you.

Are you near a Walmart or similar store? You can find small "furry" white washable rugs there, giant cup and saucer planting pots in the spring, large flat baskets to line with soft blankets for newborn shots, fairy wings during Halloween, etc. They can be also found at places like Walmart or Target online for reasonable cost.

I also found a site that explains how to make tutus. Just scroll part of the way down the page. Never tried it myself, but it looks easy enough. You can also check out etsy for a readymade one.

Cant beat buying a feather boa for 99 cents or a handmade bumble bee outfit for 5. I do a lot on Ebay for props
Might also consider digital props, doesnt come any cheaper than free

Comb the loacl thrift stores - ebay is good but I find it time consuming - and I NEVER win...grrr. Also check out Etsy.

There are two people that I like there for head bands and tutus. PM me if you want their info. Also, if you have buy buy baby that's also a great place to look.

Also, TJ Max, Home goods, Marshalls, Target, WalMart, your local craft store - the dollar store...
