Question First time... Fashion show photography

Appreciated members,

I have been invited to cover a fashion show next Saturday, it sounds interesting although this is my first time to cover such type of events.

My photography gear consists of the following:

DSLR Camera - Sony Alpha 350
Lenses - 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 & 55-200mm F4-5.6
Hot shoe Flash - Nikon SB-800 (With adapter to mount on the Sony camera body)

I would be so grateful for your advice on how to use my gear in a perfect way to have a great photos at the end.

Also any other tips rather than technical will be so much of use.

You would be wise to check out the venue ahead of time to see what kind of lighting you will be dealing with. Hopefully you will have good light and will be able to shoot with natural light, using your flash only as fill. Worst case, you will be relying heavily on your flash for the light. You almost certainly will not be able to bounce the light off the ceiling so an investment in the Lumiquest system or similar may be wise.

Aside from that, this should be a lot of fun. These will be good looking people dressed to the nines expecting to be photographed. That makes your job a lot easier so this should be fun.

Thanks Lee for the advice.

I will be at the venue as early as possible to check the available lighting, hopfully it will be well lit.

But do you think I may use the my hot-shoe flash as a fill-in flash! won't it be so distracting for both the attendees and the models?

Don't you think in case of the place well lit, won't it be better or natural to use available light so that no colour casts may ever happen further!

I was thinking of using significant shutter speed and and ISO range as high as possible to freez the action and keep it well lit in the same time, also this is to overcome my slow lenses "f4"....!
