First Portrait Session

I was shooting the picture at night, indoor with my NIKON D3000, Lens 55mm, Auto Mode with flash, but the result for that picture was very dark, what is the happen for that and when i was using without flash, then the picture is better but one things is that the picture will blur because the shutter speed was very slow, CAN any one help me with that, or the setting for my camera need to change???
