Default newborns!

hey everyone

I'm just a beginner... and all I have is my kit lens (18-55mm) and my new 50mm 1.8.

My sister is about to give birth to twins (!).

They will be a few weeks old by the time I meet them, and they aren't born yet, so I have time to figure out a great way to photograph them.

first question - would I be ok with my 50mm, or should I look at borrowing/renting something else...?

second question - any tips? I looked at some other threads (there was another one on twins!) so that was helpful, but if there is anything you can offer, that would be great.

Their apartment has a good amount of natural light so hopefully the lighting will be good.

The twins are a girl and a boy...

but I've never photographed babies before and have no idea what I'm doing! I would love to be able to give my sister some great photos of the twins.

Most likely your 50mm will do just fine. The large aperture allows you to get a shallow depth of field and give everything that's not in focus a soft babyskin-like appearance.

Most photos are made with soft, indirect light. So don't put them into direct sunlight, but let it bounce across the room a bit. Or use one or two flashes that you bounce. Other than that, shooting infants is the same as shooting adults: follow your and their feelings and try to capture those in your photos.

thanks!

I will have a few days while I'm visiting, so I really hope I can get a few good ones!

I'm glad you said that the 50mm will be ok... that's what I was hoping to hear.
