Default Feedback on my 1st Club event shoot

Hey guys. First off, I find these photos very inspiring and i would like to slowly head in this direction. FLOW FRIDAY -- FEEL THE FLOW

I did a Opanda on one of those photos and it listed a canon 5dmarkII shooting at 3200iso! @ fstops of 2 which show nice DOF *droolz* plus full frame camera galore.

Now..i was wondering if it was possible to archive the same shots/similar at that above link with my nikkon d200 + sb600 flash light. i have 30mm prime 1.4 and 10-20mm wide F4-6 and a gary fong which i used here:

Pictures by DrakeSoRz - Photobucket

3-4 things i dont like... my skin tones, the sweaty foreheads, the black backgrounds(no atmosphere feel of the club and disco lights), not much DOF, I think my WB is a lil off or maybe i have my colours abit to vibrant so ppl look tanned, red, orange, sunburnt :S.

Apart from that I am happy that it exposed nicely and I am glad i got some good moments of my friends partying away (lol other people thought i was the club photographer and kept pulling me aside to take their shots..once i did their shot they asked me for a card or info and i said "errrrr just goto the clubs website") =]

If you guys could give me any tips and advice on how i can get archive shots of that similar to the Flow link Id love yah for it. So hit me with the rhythm stick.

ps. this is my 1st post, this forum is wondering! Ive learnt most of what i know so far from here *big thumbsup*.

edit: arghh, 1st post and i post it in the wrong section. Sorry mods!

First, stop shooting at 10mm. Your pics look very distorted.

Is your flash diffused at all? That might explain why you get such SHINY spots on people's faces.

You want to get ambient light, there's a couple different things you can do, and they aren't mutually exclusive. Bounce your light, but most of the time you can't since there are high black ceilings. Then use a sto-fen bounce or something similar, even a bounce card. Direct the light away from shooting straight forward. This will provide ambient light to the background. Other thing you can do is to drag your shutter. Keep it open longer to let in more ambient light.

Composition is key, get closer, fill your frame.

If you are inspired with the Flow Friday images, you are in luck. Simply buy an on camera speedlight slap it on your camera and blaze away.

Hi, i believe i already have a speed light? sb600, i stated that in my original post. Or were you suggesting something else.

What alrounder glass would you recommend for night time clubs that i could use ?

what shutter speed would be good in low light condition without blur from movement. 20? lower?

what kind of Fstops would you suggest for large groups.

Im stilling tryng to figure out flash, its a tricky business.

I don't know anything about Nikon cameras as I am a Canon man. Flash will freeze movement. If you WANT movement use a slow shutter speed and a tripod, that is assuming the camera will allow you to use a slow shutter speed.
