Default Black on Black

Hi, I want to shoot a dark skinned black man (my honey) on a black background. I've attached a sample of what I want to do. Can anyone suggest the right settings. If I can pull this off, I'd like to do a full searies of them.

Thanks all!

Th example shot was most likely done with a single light in a softbox up real close to his face.

Im not sure if this is right but its probably where I would start until someone probably came along and said ohh here's a totally easier way to do it lol.

I would use spot metering and meter off the skin tone if using P or Shutter or Aperture Priority I would dial in -1 to -1 1/2 exposure compensation. If shooting manual I would again meter off the skin tone and expose for -1 to -1 1/2 checking the LCD and hostograms to see which exposure was better.
