Default Self-portrait Tips and Help

I love taking self-portraits more then anything. But, i'm having difficulty with my self-portraits coming out blurry. I have a Canon EOS 50D. I'm also wanting to step up my self-portraits.
Any tips?

Camera shake blurry or out of focus blurry?

I found self-portraits got a lot easier once I got a tripod and remote control. I could then set up the camera, make sure it was focused in the right place and then position myself and trigger the shutter (several times, increasing the chance of capturing just the right pose). Otherwise it meant either holding the camera at arms length, pointing to myself, or balancing it somewhere, setting the timer and then dashing to try and get into the right place.

I don't know Canon cameras but if it is equipped with an intergraal timer you can use that feature. On my D300 it will focus before each shot so its a no fail method. I've also used a remote and the string method. Keep trying, self portraits are fun and a good learning experience.

Focus Blury. I do use a tripod and a self timer that my camera has. I'm starting to see that maybe a remote might me a good investment.

Thank you.
I never really understood the string method exactly.

Don't forget to switch to manual focus on your lens as well. Autofocus will try to spring into action when you remotely trigger the shutter (or do it with the timer) and may or may not choose the right point to focus on.
