Aucklander here - Ponsonby to be exact but would be EXTREMELY keen for a photo session out west! Maybe Whatipu or Karekare around golden hour! If you're keen give me an email at spm11@waikato.ac.nz and I'll figure out a time.
And yeah in terms of camera groups talking about gear etc I've had a similar experience with a dslr filmmaking meetup, very "my rig is bigger than yours" haha...

join the meetup link that was posted a wee while back. people are much less likely to email you personally. The meetup site works a bit like a mashup of FB and these forums. Events happen frequently and you just indicate if you are coming or not.
