Default Grandaughters Eyes

I cropped this from a larger image in order to focus on the eyes. It was captured using D90, 18-105Lens at 157mm, f5.7 and onboard flash.

I cropped, sharpened and increased saturation. This was just a quick shot as she came down the hall! What do you think? How could I improve this shot?

Don't use the on camera flash unless you can diffuse it, with a business card or anything.

The red eye is terrible in your image.

A quick fix in PS to remove the red eye, and move the catch light from the center of the eye.

I'm not sure where your focal point is. You said you wanted to focus on the eyes but the eyes aren't in focus.

Yeah, that pop up flash can give you really harsh shadows and since you can't move it around, you're gonna have a tough time diffusing it. Gary Fong makes the "puffer" that helps a little bit. Personally, I'd save the $20 bucks and put it towards a speedlight.

Have you got your camera set where you can manually toggle the focus points and choose the one you want? In this image it looks like the focus fell closer to the bottom of her hair and ears.
