Please give me your critique on the exposure and white balance of this photo. I now have a grey card and I'm hoping the white balance is good. I have tried to adjust the exposure as written by Benji on this forum. I am getting an eyedropper reading of R of 237-238 on her cheek. This was taken in our basement studio using two background lights and 2 front lights each with an umbrella. The only changes were setting Lightroom Profile to Camera Standard and bumping the exposure by 1/3. I also cleaned up the background using the marquee tool and dodge tool in Photoshop

Thanks!

you know I really like this picture but for some reason the glare coming off her glasses (the left one if you as you are looking at it) catches my eye everytime I look at it. In this pic and in the larger one same thing. If you have a way to fix that I think it would be even better. I really think this is execellent though besides that. That is a very neat picture and I like how white the background is.

Yep. I noticed the glare on her glasses as well - it was pretty much the first thing that caught my eye.

The exposure and white balance look great to me. You did a really nice job. Well done!

Thanks for your comments. What is the best way to remove the glare? Also how do you avoid it during the shoot? Now that I'm looking at the eyes I see that I have two catchlights.....I'm assuming that is not desirable either!

A great way to avoid the glass glare while shooting is to have the person put the earpieces up higher and angle the glasses down a little.

Great job on exposure! The only thing that bugs me a little (and this is being totally nitpicky) is her arms are different colors - her right arm looks grey - and her legs look really dark (betting she was wearing dark-colored stockings, though?). And I'm not wild about her hands being chopped off behind her skirt.

Really good, though, for the most part! I'd be proud of it if I were you.

dblightsey: The thumbnail is pretty cute!!!

SusanH1970: I'll try to remember the trick about moving the earpiece part of the glasses higher. I don't know why the arms are different color and yes, she was wearing dark-colored stockings. I agree that the missing hands are distracting.

When my son-in-law saw the picture, he suggested a longer focal length and I think he's right. This may involve a redesign of the basement space!

Thanks,
Bev
