Question Ask me to dance.

Okay, so I am not normally a Portrait Photographer; it has never been my calling.
But, I am trying to get my portfolio ready to send to the college that I want to attend, and I have heard from several people that I need to include some portraits.

So, I tried my hand at it, again.
I got this shot of my friend, Ashley, and I believe it represents my perspective pretty well.
Also, I was going for the slightly blurry, out of place look.

Does her posture represent that look?
What should I have done different?
Is the lighting okay for a portrait photograph?
Is black and white an okay effect for this photo?
What are your opinions?

One more thing, this is my first post.
I have read the rules, and understand them.
But, I did not pay attention to ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture.
In fact, I rarely do, but I will start.

to me its still a little dark. I like the pose though and the cloudy effect.

if you have a flickr account you can upload the photo , open the photo and look on the right it should say properties. Click on that and it should give you the read out of your settings.

I quite like the composition, though I think I would have tried to keep the right elbow in the image. I think I would have cloned out the wall join, bottom left to keep it all one wall - if you know what I mean - and yes, bit dark. Do you use any light / flash etc?

Welcome to dPS!

I get what you mean about the wall, I will do that.
I did not use any flash, but I had a lamp lit to her right. (It kind of made a shadow of her right elbow, which I agree should have been kept in the whole picture.)
I was attempting to keep the mood kind of dark, so I didn't use a flash..

Thank you

Sure thing, you can use a strong light source and still keep a nice dark feeling to your image... A stronger light source could give you some nice shadow to play with perhaps? Worth a thought :-)
