Default growing up.....

Trying my hand at portraits...i usually only do nature/landscape.....
Please tell me where to improve upon.... Do you think it's too saturated or the face a little too light?
Thanks for the help

I like the brightness of the face and the colors. Great shot.

Are you calibrated? Her skin looks a little blue to me.

lovely shot, love the red vs green balance of the shot.
I would darken the face a tiny notch, to naturalise the shot a smidge!

I like the it. I also like the reds and greens. Her face might be a tad overexposed but not by much. Great job!!

I agree; her face is a little overexposed but, not a whole lot - nice shot!

Great snapshot, and if you are wanting to do more great snapshots stick with the technique you used for this one. If you want to move up to the next level, where the comments will go from "nice" "great" and "lovely" to WOW just say so.

No flash? Then what are the catch lights in her eyes?

That line across the top of the photo is kind of...uh, well...not supposed to be there? Haha.

I like the bright colors and the contrast between the red and green. However, the lighting looks a little flat to me, and there's a pretty harsh shadow underneath her chin.

Not a bad start. Keep at it!

EDIT: It seems that there has been an issue with uploading attachments and getting lines through the photos lately.

Ambrya_nell,

The lines show up in other images posted here on DPS so that has nothing to do with anything you are doing.

Ashley is quite pretty!

Critique on lighting. The image is overexposed, and your flash is firing. You can see the effects of the flash by the pin point catchlights in her eyes and the sharp shadow under her chin cast by the flash.

Critique on the pose. When someone is seated on the ground then leans back onto their arms, the upper arm muscles will tense up and bulge out making their upper arms look large. Guys love this. Girls usually don't! The cure is to either have them lean against something so the weight of their torso is not on their arms or have them lean forward. Is there a reason she is placed so close to the left edge of the frame? If you want to place her off center she should be at the right edge so she has "room" to lean into.
