Default Starting to get into family pics

OK, I'm going to try and get this posting in the critique section right this time. Apparently lack of sleep has made me dense.

I'm just starting to expand my focus from Macro/Nature to family photograpy. Attached is one example of a session yesterday. Do you think the processing is too much? I gave both the original and the processed version to the mother. The entire session is linked
(it starts on #14 on my website), and I would appreciate your input.

Canon 50
Tamron 90mm/2.8
Ap: 4.5
Shutter 1/250
ISO: 200
PP Processing

Thanks!

Her red dress is really pretty against the green grass. Love the contrasting colors. This might be intentional so if so just ignore me but something to watch out for- try not to cut off the tops of people's heads when you shoot. Maybe back up a little to avoid that and give yourself some extra crop room. Something that took me forever to figure out- if you're shooting in bright sunlight you may get some harsh shadows on faces. A little fill flash from a speedlight, waiting until the sun is lower in the sky, or finding a spot that's in total shade can help with that.
The photo of the kids walking away together is really sweet! Thanks for sharing!

Cute kid and sweet smile. But, it's overexposed, cropped too tightly, and the eyes look a little oversharpened. Is this an in-camera crop? I don't mind heads being cropped, but I'm not wild about the chin chop and it's a little too tight on the head.

Not bad for a first try though....keep trying and I'd love to see more from you!

Thanks for the critique! The overexposure was intentional (done in Photoshop), but I thought it may be a little too much. Good point about the chin. Somehow I didn't even notice that. One of the reasons I'm starting to post here, to learn what I'm missing in my review of sessions.

Thanks so much!

Default Can I ask you how?

Woogiekids-
I was looking through all your photos. Could you please tell me how you did the editing between photos 79 and 80? I really like that look but I'm not sure how to get closer to it!

Thanks so much!

There are some really great shots in there...great start to family photography!

Regarding the photo you posted here though, TBH, after looking at the others, this one doesn't even really look like the same girl?

I agree with the others that the crop is a bit too tight, and perhaps that's why it doesn't look like her?

But like I said, some really great shots in there! I love, I think it was 65 (?) of the little girl looking up at her big bro. What gorgeous kids!
