Default portrait on the bed(no room)

If yall would take a look and help me out some with some feedback. I know this looks more like a yearbook type photo. Kind of just got the wife to sit there for me a couple minutes. I just have to find some room to get some poses in. Any how, how is the lighting, the look, eyes, etc.?? Appreciate it.

headshot portrait

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture: f/3.2
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

I used a ghetto softbox I made off to camera right and a garage clamp lamp off to camera left. CFL 1200 Lumens. I in softbox one in lamp.

I think you did a good job. The skin tones seem a bit off, a bit too orange. Also I think the photo could use a better crop in vertical portrait orientation. I did a real quick edit but I'm not as good as some of the others on here. Just wanted to show you what I was thinking.

Sorry about the lines, something going on with the uploader.

Looks way too yellow on my monitor.

I did a quick simple edit. All I did was add a cooling filter, and bump up the contrast.

Since it is plain and white, you should be able to set the white balance using the background before you invite your model to sit down. That would give a more natural result.

My other comment is that her nose gets a little bit lost. You don't want to emphasise the nose too much but, if your wife is willing to sit a little bit longer, it would be worth experimenting with the lighting (adjusting the positioning and perhaps using a reflector) to see how that changes the modelling on the face.

thanks. They lights that I use are giving off that color. Are those lights fine to use, just adjust the white balance ? They are CFLs 1200 lumens 20watts(75watt replacements)

Yes. That is what WB is for: adjusting the camera to compensate for different light conditions.

hate to beat a dead horse but here is the same shot I cropped it and played with it some in PSE 8. Is this much of an improvment ? Is this still too much red ? the WB still off ? Im having a hard time telling I guess.

Way too yellow/orange, with a touch of green. What was your WB set to?

Pulled up the photo in CS3 and went into color balance here's what I had to do:
Cyan -60
Magenta -6
Blue +54.

But this is corrected for my screen.
