I just can seem to get the light down right. I feel the lighted side is to bright but I don't want to use a slower shutter speed. Do you thing a faster ISO would help?

try a piece of white posterboard on your right (camera left) to help bounce some light back onto the other side of you face.

A slower shutter or "faster" (i think you mean higher?) ISO would only make it worse. Slowing the shutter lets in more light. Higher ISO means more sensitive to light. You want to tone the light down so faster shutter or lower ISO. a reflector on the other side will help bring out some detail in the shadow if thats what you want. A snooted flash just hitting your face instead of using the natural light probably would have worked better to avoid blowing out the white shirt.
