I want to start with what a great shot this is. I love the overall image, expression, composition, and how piercing those eyes are. Great job.
The color looks a little on the cool side. It also appears that his left eye is just a touch soft (most noticeably around the iris of the eye.) This is probably do to the aperture setting at f/2.8 and being so close to the subject. At that distance, you only have an inch (if that) with the f-stop setting you shot with that will be in focus. If you bring your aperture up to f/5.6, you get about an inch and a half of focus. This should be enough to only have both eyes in focus and not much else (this assumes you are about 2-3 feet from your son.)

Thank you so much for your help! I was thinking maybe it was a bit cool - I guess I really am suffering from the winter blues! Sorry, that was a really bad joke.
I will go back a warm it up a tad.I really wish I could shoot with a smaller aperture, but I just don't have enough light. The shutter speed is then too slow for kids (at least for my wiggle worms) - even with a tripod and remote. I have no budget right now for a flash or lights, so I'm just stuck with what I have for now. I'm so looking forward to warm weather again! |
