Default Dealing with lack of lighting

I do not have a light set up yet so I was using a Vivitar camera mounted flash aimed at the ceiling. It works really well for some shots, but it caused a shadow in this one. What do you think? Does the shadow ruin the shot or is it okay. I wish I could have gotten both eyes in the shot. What do you guys and gals think?

My son, who normally won't sit still for pictures, surprised me with this pose and I didn't have much time to capture this, but I liked how it turned out. Just wanted some feedback on the shot and the shadow.

Nikon D90
F-stop f/5.6
Shutter 1/400

Nice eye contact and color but the shadows on the left, completely vanishes his eyes, I dont think it works here for me. Not like this.

No, the image was posted like I took the shot, though, it might be better the way you rotated it Benji.

And Wal, I think you are right, the dark shadow is really bugging me. Ruined an otherwise good shot. Oh well. It was not a planned capture, so I am happy that I caught it. Thanks for the comments.

I like it. I think the shadow works and would probably be even better if it was converted to B&W. The only thing I find distracting is the logo on the shirt -- maybe photoshop it out...just my measly two cents worth.

Default shadow

I like the way the shadow is on his face, but not for a picture like this. It seems that something a little softer is called for, rather than half of his face just kind of disappearing into the background. I guess what I am saying is that I like the overall effect, but it doesn't seem to work for this particular photo.

edit: and I like the original orientation better.
