Default Nikka in Portrait

Camera : Canon EOS 50D
f stop : F/7.1
ISO : 100
focal length ; 75mm
flash : no flash used

Kindly critique my shot, this was taken when we are on our road trip going to Quriyat, Oman. The post process that I only did was using the Auto Levels in Photoshop and cropping.

Nice, sharp focus and the pose looks fine to me.

Here are my thoughts:

1) blurring out the background would help. To do this, you can either use a wider aperture (lower f#), move her further away from the rocks, or both; and

2) the lighting here isn't the best. Most of her face - including her eyes - are in deep shadow, while the left side of her face is in full sun. If possible, try to get less varied lighting on her face. For example, have her face be all in shadow and use fill flash to lighten it up. Or you might've been able to keep her in this same position but use a reflector camera left to bounce some light onto her face.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, and good point. The eyes (at least) look blurry in the large version on flickr.
