Hello everyone. This is my first post. I am new to photography, but LOVE it. I recently got a D3000 and spend a lotof time trying to learn how to use all it has to offer. I would like it if you could offer some suggestions as to the composition, lighting, and whther or not the background is too distracting. I cropped this and sharpened it in Photoshop, but did not know how to do much else (or if I needed to).
Thanks for all of your help, and I look forward to learning from all of you. Hopefully, I will be able to reciprocate someday. BTW, how do I get the picture to show up in the body of the message??!! Nikon D3000 f/5.3 1/25 sec. ISO 450 44mm Auto White Balance |

Her eyes are nice and bright, and you filled the frame quite well. Very deserving of a spot on Grandma's fridge!

Congrats on your new camera and welcome to the wonderful world of photgraphy. Is this your girl? She is pretty, isn't she? I like the her posture and I think that if she were in the same position from left to right that would be even better (here she is from right to left). Background is not distracting except for the striped clothing there. Only way to stop worrying about background later is to think before you take the shot. Well done on your first post !!!
