Default First Try!

I'm new to DPS and this is my first time posting. This is the son of a good friend of mine who loves the camera.

I am really new to this, but I appreciate any comments. Thanks!

Hi WiscGirl, welcome to the forums!

I like nicely out of focus background, allows for focus on the subject.

I do think the background is a little busy though so that does distract from the subject.

Lastly, the left side is a little blown out.

It's a great photo and with no control of the lighting situation, I'm not sure there is anything you could have done about the blown out portion of his hair - maybe some fill flash would have helped but those more talented than me can discuss that. However, I think it's a little yellowish. I did a quick curves adjustment in Photoshop (just the auto setting), then dodged his eyes b/c the curves adjustment made them too dark. I think it made him stand out from the background and fixed his skin coloring.
