Default Dad and his little girl

Hey all,
I am starting to shoot more portraits lately and would like to get some C&Cs on this one. I converted to B&W as it seemed to be more emotional evocative than in color. This was shot hand held with no flash and the following EXIF data:

f/4
1/400th of a sec
ISO 1250
70 mm

Thanks,
Jim

Lovely, Jim! Though I'd love to see it in color, I agree that a shot like this works quite well in BW. I LOVE the dad's expression, he looks so unaware of the camera and totally in love with his little one!

I really like the light. I wish the baby's head was turned more toward the camera, though. Watch your limb chops...the two fingers on the baby's back look a little odd.

Whatever that is in the background (couch or something) is a bit distracting; can you clone it out? My eye keeps going right to it.

Have you tried adding a touch of brightness and giving a little contrast boost?

Nice photo! I'm sure they love it. I agree with Susan on the background - especially how it hits the very top of the baby's head and breaks up the definition of her profile.

Thanks Giya and Susan, your comments are greatly appreciated. I will see what I can do in post to touch up / remove that background.
