Default a beary good snooze

Hi all, This is a pic i took of my little boy a few weeks ago. HAve only ever taken holiday happy snaps before so any suggestions welcome. Mostly I am not sure about the background ?is the blue distracting, the lighting ?does the light reflecting up off the bear make baby look too yellow, and the focus ? not sure if the bear nose would have been better in or out of focus

I too am a new member and trying to learn about photography. All I can tell you is that when I first saw the shot I thought it was awesome. Once I saw your questions well maybe a little yellow on baby's head from bear, think it is in good focus, and no I don't find the background distracting. Like I said Awesome. And cute kid!

For the background, I don't think the color is distracting, but the repeating pattern doesn't do much for me.

Also, if the shot could've been taken from more to the left, then you boy's eyes and forehead - as well as some of the bear - would be visible.

In all other ways, I like it. Color and focus look good to me.

I think your baby is absolutely adorable lying on that bear and would love to be able to see more of him; I agree that the shot would have been better taken more from the left so we could see more of your sweet baby's face! The background kept me wondering what it was and though it is probably a blanket, it also looks a little like the tub mats that keep one's feet from slipping. If you are planning to reshoot, I would definitely change that. The baby does look a little yellow, which is perhaps a combination of the reflection of the bear and shadowing. But then, I'm trained to be a little hypersensitive to yellow tones in babies. The bottom of his nose and chin have nice color.

Overall I really like it. I agree with some of the suggestions to move left and show more of his face. My eye is drawn to the bear first, then the baby at this angle. The background color seems ok but the dots are a little distracting. Having young kids of my own, I recognize the fabric pretty quick so I knew what it was but I still looked for a minute and thought, "what is the background?" I don't really notice a yellow reflection but my monitor doesn't always show color correctly. All in all though, I like it and what a sweet baby! <3

Thanks heaps for the feedback guys!!! It is reassuring to know that others who don't have an emotional interest in thinking this is a cute baby and a cute photo also think it came up OK

You have confirmed my suspicions re: the backround being "off" but are right about it being the dots not the color. i didn't expect the pics to be any good so just grabbed the first thing that came to hand. lesson learnt.

i did take pics from differnet angles and zooms but i found either all you could see of the bear was the underside of his chin and he was no longer recognisable or you saw too much body and it looked like unmentionables were occuring!

will play a little with the yellow since it is bothering some
cheers
