Default My little man in the snow

I am brand new to using a DSLR and brand new to posting in this forum. I will do my best to do it according to the rules - please let me know if I do something wrong...

I just got my Nikon D90 at the beginning of December as an early Christmas present. I am most interested in portrait photography and my poor children spend the majority of their lives with my camera shoved in their faces. Below is my favorite shot to date and I would love to hear what you all have to say. Thank you so much!

Nikon D90 with 18-55mm lens
ISO 800
42mm
f5.3
Exposure 1/640 sec

Thanks DavidD. I never have been good at reading instruction books. Got it in there now.

I absolutely love this photo! I love his facial expression and the position of his body in relation to the frame...love him bundled in his snow suit and the hat is great! The only thing that I think would make it true eye candy, is to have his face pop with a bit more brightening. It sort of blends in with the lighter gray stripes in his outfit, thereby competing for your attention. Other than that...perfect!!

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone. Ruth I do see what you are saying about the distraction of the stripes in his hat. Think I will try playing with it a little just to see what happens. I have been so concerned with learning the mechanics of taking the picture I haven't even really started to think about editing so I appreciate the feedback and chance to play and see what happens. Thanks again!

Its a nice capture although a bit underexposed. I would also ease up on the noise reduction.

I too, think this is a great picture, but I do think its underexposed, nothing that can not be fixed in photoshop. I think the black and whites are a little muddy and if you adjust the curves it will make him pop more than he is now.
