Default Headshots for a student

Hello all. Recently I was contacted asking if I could do headshots for a friend of the family. She needed them for school. We went out today and took some shots, I was curious to see if you guys thought they were headshots material. I don't have a lot of gear at the moment, (or ever :S) so this was done on a budget. I got a nice diffuser for christmas. All I had was the camera and that diffuser. We took these shots on the UCLA campus around 2ish. The background is just fabric I bought held up by a pvc frame I made. I also had a dark fabric I used too.

Any suggestions if I get a job like this in the future? Am I posing correctly? Does the background work for these kind of shots? Any tidbits of info from those that have done headshots before?

Thanks in advance.

Ryan

very clean shot, considering your tools did a very good job. I like the way the model has not given the typical pose, almost looks a little stand offish I like it

Outstanding job using your props! Lighting is nice and natural...just shows that you don't have to have a lot of equipment to get some nice shots. The only thing that I noticed is that my eyes go to her neck first then I look UP to her face. Might have been better if you were more on her eye level.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe having her look down at the camera. Good luck!

You've got a little cleanup to do for items on her jacket. It's a decent photo but your angle isn't the best. Eye level or you up higher would have made for a better shot.

Thank you wanelad, This was one of the poses I made. I knew it was going to be slightly different, and she probably won't use it for her headshot pics but I enjoy it.

Thank you, swilliams61. I've attached another picture at the bottom that is more eye level. Do you think its more of an improvement? Most of the shots taken were eye level.

Good eye on the jacket lputman and thanks. I'll get to work on cleaning that up a bit. Also, it seems most everyone agrees that looking down the nose isn't the best pose for the headshots. If you could take a look below and see if this is a bit better for me?

I think your shots are great. I agree with others that the second one is much better. The first was a bit too "up the nose" for me. Only my opinion. Still, you did a great job.
