Post a little experiment...

i'm just getting to know my Nikon D3000, so I got a friend to pose for me for a few portrait shots... Any critique/comments would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Eliska

Welcome to DPS! Hope you come to love it here as much as I have. I have learned so much here, and still have a long way to go. Definitely not a pro, but to be honest, this shot doesn't really do anything for me. I just don't feel any emotion from it. Keep trying and hope to see more from you!

Why Shutter: 1/25, Exp.: F10, ISO: 1600 ?

ISO 1600 give you noise and you don't need the depth of field of f/10 and 1/25th is kind of slow. I would think you would be better at something like f/4 (if your lens gets down there) a faster shutter speed and ISO 400 or so.

I agree with that... a shallower DoF would do this photo a great deal of good... but not a bad start.

I am a newbie to photgraphy but I have learned a couple of tips from this great site, and one of them is what I think is basic when doing portraits: focus on subject´s eyes.

I would suggest to do your portraits capturing the subject eyes, as the saying: "the eyes are the windows to the soul".
