Default Most adorable girl ever!

I'm a newbie with a point and shoot, but saving up for a dslr! I work at a preschool and I love taking pictures of my kids! So most of my shots of them are impromptu. I love this picture, I think she is just the most adorable thing ever! I'm curious what some of you think, specifically the composition and exposure, but all comments are welcome! Thanks!

She is a cutie...it is over exposed as you probably know, which sometimes is a nice effect but not when the background is a different exposure. I'd say shoot in the shadows until you're comfortable with that and then venture into the sun. I'm still in the shadows except for backlighting

i photograph children often, and i know how hard it can be to catch that moment when they're smiling and happy and just being their wonderful selves. and you've caught it here. i LOVE this picture. just love it. great work!

Thanks for the comments! I agree it is over exposed, but the shadows just seemed so dark that day, and I couldn't get good light on the faces. And yes it is certainly hard to capture that moment when the child is genuinely smiling, not just faking it for the camera, I just got lucky here to be honest!

Very cute - great expression.

My main issue is with the background - in particular, the fence running right into her head.

I know it's hard to blur out backgrounds with a point and shoot. And posing young kids isn't easy, and doing so in impromptu shots is even harder. Which makes it even more important to watch your background.

So, you did well with this - but with practice and attention to the little things, your photos will continue to improve.

With a little PlugIn called AlienSkin Bokeh you can reproduce the DoF effect with Photoshop.
This is the effect of a 50mm @ f1.8

I like it. She is precious. I do like it with the PP DoF. keep up the good work.

One bit of word to the wise, I'm not sure where your preschool is but in FL you have to be careful taking pictures of young kids as a school employee and posting them online. I had no idea but my wife is a pre-K/elementary school teacher.

Once again, good job I love her expression
