I'm just a newbie. But I'm thinking maybe a tighter crop?

I think the DOF is good but as I mentioned before ..I'm a newbie!!

It's a nice photo. Cool idea!

I am also a new member but I feel the focus should have been on the face of the baby rather than on the fingers.

Perfect capture. The blurred background of the face and body compliment the in focus fingers of the baby perfectly.

I agree with Anna Jo- maybe a crop after the fingers on the right side? I love how out of focus the baby is! However, i would kinda prefer for the fingers themselves to be sharper since they are the focal point of the picture. Maybe you could accomplish this with a quicker shutter speed? Nice work!

Cute picture. Baby fingers are so tiny and amazing!

I would make the following suggestion (please let me know if you'd like it removed):

Done in GIMP:
  1. Crop to ensure that the little fingers are adhering to the rule of thirds.
  2. The photo is a bit underexposed, so I bumped up the brightness and contrast
  3. Add a duplicate layer. Apply a gaussian blur to the new layer. Add a black layer mask to the layer and paint over the couch with white to throw the couch out of focus
  4. Flatten.

I tried to sharpen the fingers up, but actually liked the softer look without the sharpening. Try it and see what you think.

Thank you guys for your appreciations! Now I understand what Anna was recommending! I guess you have all the scope to do whatever you want with the picture .

@naeno, I loved the way you have given a new dimension to this picture.. I like the picture this way.. great learning experience! I will try myself what you recommended using PS. Hope I will be able to do that since I know little about PS. Thanks a lot!

Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Please don't hesitate. I did my changes using GIMP, but the instructions for PS should be about the same.

Naeno.. I tried the steps mentioned by you in PS but unfortunately I was not able to get the exact same effect.. I cropped the picture and then added a duplciate layer and the gaussian blur (hit once but also tried with multiple instances of gaussian blur). The hand was quite blurry not very sharp. So I applied gaussian blur only one or two times. And then added a black layer mask but didn't see any changes when i painted the couch with white. I am attaching the corrected image.. Please advice.
