Default First attempt at studio style portrait

Here is a photo of my daughter, my first real attempt at a studio style portrait.

My setup - two shoot through umbrellas with two canon 580EXII flashes postitioned on each side of subject.

f3.5
60mm
Shutter 80

What do you think of the pose and lighting or just overall feel of photo.

I think your lighting is very nice. There is still detail in the blacks, nice. If I were to have any critique it would be to maybe add a hair or rim light - and that’s a super small suggestion because it works as is very well. Congrats - nicely done especially for a first attempt!!
btw, did you post process in some background blur? Reason I ask it I notice a weird halo around her...

Yes I did blur in photoshop, maybe I can do a better job but the room I was in was too small to get proper boke (i think that is how you spell it )

Thanks for the comments and I will try the rim lighting when I do it again.

Thanks,

The subject looks soft and there is, what looks like, CA in places (subjects left hand, leggings). The subject is well above middle grey but the lighting looks flat and uninteresting.

i speak in math, thanks for the critque, I guess you got to take the good and the bad and learn from it.

I know I should have added some kind of rim/hair light to seperate her from the background - I will next time. The CA is from the blurring I did in photoshop.

Thanks and I will keep working on it, this was my first time doing a studio style photo.

Hee is another photo from the same photo shoot that I think looks better than the first one. What do you think? I do agree with one poster that said the first photo looked flat. I think this one is more sharp, there is not CA - i think, just overall better photo IMO.

I know the back lighting/Rim lighting would have made this much better - next time.

Yes I like the second one much better...I think you did well for lighting a first try. Keep on experimenting!
