Default Bride Needs Lightening!

Melbourne 309

Shooting Mode: Shutter Priority AE
TV: 1/80
AV: 20
Exposure Compensation 0
ISO: 400
Focal Length: 38
White Balance: Auto

I would like to lighten the bride without affecting the background. Does Photoshop have a function to enable me to do this - I am still finding my way around Photoshop and would welcome any tips and hints about how to go about touching up this photo.

make a selection around here and use the levels tool.

or

duplicate this layer and use the levels tool to lighten her up then erase everything around her so the background is normal.

you might need more than two layers though because you'll blow out the dress using just one layer. you could also just use the dodge tool to lighten her up but i'd probably try this at 10% opacity at a time.

Learn to mask and it will make everything that much easier, having said that there are numerous issues with the shot. Some cloning and masking also a level adjustment layer as well as some area dodging.

here's a quickie edit but i didn't use PS.

the image was a bit small so there was a lot of noise and i did a little bit of smoothing.

From DPS

not my best work and i didn't do any blemish control.

Very easy to fix in photoshop:

Just apply shadow/highlight at default settings-Twice.Regards, Ken

Thanks for your comments - what programme did you use to "smooth" the picture as it is more the effect I was trying to get.

Appreciated your comments - thanks. So the cloning is to get rid of the person behind? What would I use the area dodging for? Sorry, I am still at the basic photoshop level so some of the terms are still new to me.

Thanks for that - it seems as though there are a number of different ways to go about getting the same effect. Appreciate your input.

I used the cloning tool to get rid of the people in the background and used the dodge and burn to bring out the details in the dress.

you can also use the dodge tool to lighten the bride as well. just a lot of different ways to do things.

i used PSP X2 to process your picture and i used the smoothing tool that was inside of that. i tried the Topaz DeNoise but liked what PSP did better and turned down the opacity a little bit.

i also used the clone tool with a low opacity to get rid or the dark shadows under her eyes.
