Smile Sr. Picture

All critic welcome, no pro, just trying to save money in the economy by taking my daughters own Sr. Pictures. I'm not happy about the lonlely hanging arm... Is there anything I could have done in the settings to make this better? How is the color and lighting? Does her hair give you the feel of the wind blowing or not?
Thanks.
Rita

I agree, great shot! The lighting on her face is perfect- her smile is natural and not forced looking. It's a keeper!

About the arm- maybe in the future (or if you re-do the shoot), have her hand resting on the column loosely or on her hip?

I like it a lot. I do this pose on occasion but I bring the near hand up like you have the back hand, provided the subject is wearing a pretty ring AND/OR she has had her fingernails done up nicely. On the 'net however I usually see other photographers using this pose with no ring and ugly nails. I also have her bring her back shoulder up against the tree to fill in that hole in between her body and the tree, this also turns her torso at about a 45 degree angle to the camera.

The thing that makes the arm an issue is it is cut off at the joint. You could crop this a couple of ways that would eliminate that.

First, I like the pic. Great natural smile!

I took a stab at cropping the pic a bit for you. Note I am no expert but liked this version of the pic. Sorry it is so small.

+ 1 to this suggestion, as well as cropping off a bit of the column to fill the frame a bit more and put her eyes on the top third line. (ex. attached)

Excellent picture! Love the processing, bokeh, smile, eyes. Beautiful girl. Nice work.

Great portrait; BEAUTIFUL girl! My husband just happened to be walking by and HE even stopped and said "Now, THAT'S a good picture!" I like SandeeWig's crop better, but the rest of the photo is so good that the original crop was not all that distracting to me. Love the "wind" effect too! LOVE IT!

Very lovely portrait, you did a very good job on this one. The hand is a bit akward on the wall but the portrait is still usable. I would have a little more contrast personally, but again thats just my style. Keep up the good work.

SandeeWig's crop looks more natural. Someone, somewhere told me to frame portraits to not crop at the joints but between them. As others pointed out, that might be what seems unnatural. Otherwise beautiful exposure!
