Default Outdoors portrait.

Hi! I'm working on a project and could use some insight on this photograph. This shot was taken on an overcast day with available light. No flash, no reflectors, nothing. What would you do to make it better?

Camera: Canon Rebel XSi w/ kit lens
F-stop: f/5.6
Exposure: 1/50 sec.
ISO: 200
Focal length: 49mm
No flash

To make this particular shot better, I would say crop it so that you lose the blue part on the lower sleeve (it is distracting, to my eye at least). You would try a black and white conversion, though.

To make it better for next time, I would pull the subject further away from the foliage in the background, or shoot with a wider aperture, so that the bg would be blurred more and less distracting.

You could also add a reflector in front and down just tad, to help balance out the lighting and throw a tad more light up into the eye recesses.

I was wondering what position the reflector should be in to get her eyes. Thanks!

I like what PhotoFix did but I'll add:
-I don't want her too bright- she's very pretty andt she has a rugged side I like too.
-and theblue arm is vital, to me. I might even back off a little, to get more of her "Chillin" type posture.
You conveyed her personality well.
