Default Portrait of my wife

Hi all,

I used this shot for the 50mm/Thanksgiving assignment and wanted some critique on it. We were hiking in the desert mountains and the sun was about an hour away from setting. The light was great. I really like this picture, but was wondering if her hair in her face is distracting.

I think her hair blowing in her face actually works for this picture...it's captured the moment and seems quite natural!

I have to agree with the majority - the hair in her face is natural and very appealing. Well done!

Great capture, although, at least on my monitor the colors were a bit off.

I thought there was too much warmth in the original as well. I like the process PhotoPhix performed on the picture, but I prefer cooler pictures over warm anyway.

Excellent Shot and I prefer wispy hair for a shot like this because it looks natural

Why shoot it in a setting sun, if you are going to neutralize the colours ?

I like the original way better, Looks very nice and natrual. The hairs doesnt bother me.

Very good question and one I have been wondering about! I took some portraits last weekend in the setting sun and the tones, of course, are very warm. I bet if I posted them for a critique (probably will, actually) people would say my white balance was off or something. When do you fix that and when do you leave it alone? I would say personal taste, but when you are doing it for a client (haha, I have had two people pay me for portraits!), what do you do?

Thanks for your replies. Being new to photography I think I get overly critical with my shots.

Personally, I like the warmth in the photo. I think warm pictures go well with people, especially females.
