Default First Portrait too!

This is also my first time to post to this thread. I've only had my camera since June 2009, and I'm finally brave enough to have folks critique my attempts at photography. I'm afraid I'm hooked... It's all I can think about! And, thank you for your help!

Hey welcome! Im very new to this too and I find portrait photography scary at the moment! I really like the picture (shes cute as a button!) and I think it captures her innocence really well! But did you intend to create a bit of blur/shake (visible when you see the larger image)? Nevertheless, caputured really well and Im sure the others will provide some positive comments/improvements! Have fun Priya.

No, the blur was unintended. She was moving and I don't have a tripod. The capture isn't crisp, rather soft looking. I'm still trying to figure out aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how it works and what is best to use when. Thank you for commenting.

Definitely blurry. She is really adorable and it would have been a great pic if there could have been sharp focus. Without a tripod you'll need a faster shutter speed to stop her action. If you could focus on her eyes mainly it'd improve the shot.
