Wink Baby shot lacking pop

I love this shot I took in the weekend, but I think it could be better. What could I do to make this photo pop?

Wow, that baby has a lot of hair. I think the baby looks uncomfortable. Maybe a different angle of the hand holding the baby would look more relaxed.

Smile I <3 baby shots :D

Cute baby!

As far as making this photo pop, if I were working with this shot I would darken the background color. It looks too similar to the color of the baby and since we are working with B&W (which works very well with this shot) we can't bring out the skin tones. Right now the baby is blending in slightly with the background. Just my $0.02.

The exposure of the bub is good (perhaps a little over?), but is a little lost in the light background.

I'm a big fan of low-key images for baby portraits - it draws attention to the bub. You might try the same set up again, but use a nice big black sheet as a backdrop.

As far as making the baby look a bit more comfortable, instead of holding him up at an angle like that, try having him held a bit more horizontal, almost like he's on his back. Infants seems to relax more this way. You can always tilt your camera to get whatever angle you want.
