Default A portrait of a 5 year old critique would be appreciated

Hi All

I would like critique on the following photograph i took of my 5 year old neice. I would love it if you could offer your critique on the composition and the focus/lighting. It was taken using natural light from the window i did not have access to a reflector and she is so quick.

EXIF INFO
Olympus E520
F/5.6
1/100Sec
ISO 400
42mm

Thankyou Appreciate all Comments.

Default Comment from a Newbie

btafly - I'm a photography newbie so I'm not sure my comments will carry much weight. However, in a word, your photo is Brilliant! Your photo has "feeling" (captures a mood) which I think is a primary goal of a portrait photo.

My eye is slightly distracted by the background clutter and I might try to reduce or eliminate this in PhotoShop.

I can only hope my portraits (which I'm having difficulty with) will someday turn out as good as this submission.

Well Done!

I have to agree with Hubble , the background is distracting. A smaller F number would have been better.
I also think that it lacks some light from the right.

The +'s Great capture,perfect focus.
The -'s Crop, background,color

Here is my take on your shot. I cropped it tighter to get rid of the background, I also lessened the saturation as in my opinion it works on this shot. I also worked the eyes a bit to bring some light into them.

I like the look of the girl, she seemed to say "hey i'm not a kid anymore"
Maybe try a square crop to remove the brightness on the right ?
