Default Natural light on the face

Took this unplanned "portrait" of my little girl as she told me about a dream she had and the light from the window shone on her face. One question I have is whether the lighted side of her face is too light. Also, is the background too distracting? I did a selection and muted the colors in the background a bit because they were very powerful compared to her pale face.

Window lit thinking

200 ISO
f3.2
1/50 SS
50 mm

Nice image. I like the way it is composed and the natural lighting looks nice. Good job.

For my money the candid portraits are invariably the best. In a perfect world the left side of her face would probably benefit from the light being a little more subdued, but having said that, the highlights aren't blown and the left/right balance looks pretty good.

The background looks fine, suitably out of focus and with no distracting highlights to draw the eye. Because I'm a 'crop-aholic' I would probably trim off the left side of the picture into the models hair.

Thanks for answering my questions! I appreciate the feedback. Thanks MP77 for the feedback also.

Nice shot! I think the lighting works because you are really showing us a candid shot more than a portrait in the traditional sense. The lighting & background add to the sense of the moment. The rim light coming from the back is a great bonus to separate her from the background a bit. It would be nice if her chin was in focus but you got the eyes which is primary. I might warm it up just a tad but over all it is a great capture that moves us to ponder what she might possibly be thinking. Nice job.

I agree that it needs warming up a tad and I would also have a play with different crops, it's a great shot tho eyes nice and sharp
