I bought my first DSLR about a year ago, and have been reading on this forum to get some tips for shooting portraits (mainly children and families, since that's big out here). I shot these two of my son using the action mode on my camera, and did some mild editing in PhotoShop (mainly fixing the color and adding the lens blur). I'd love feedback--I especially noticed after I blew the picture up the only one eye is in focus, and I'm not too sure how to fix that. Thanks!

Both eyes at the top one are actually oof. The focus fell at the top of his shirt. Focus is one of the few things that you can't really fix later..you have to get it right in camera. Learn one thing at a time, focus, composition, exposure....etc

Totally agree with Ruthie- Take one step at a time and learn each of them well and naturally they will all come together. The focus is on the mouth and shirt therefore making the eyes oof. Was the lens appropriate to take an image that close? Was the correct focal point chosen?

Hi swhite, welcome to dPS. Please take a moment to review the http://digital-photography-school.co...rum-rules.html and adjust your post accordingly. Thanks.
