Question Photo of my sister, first time posting...

Only bought SLR this year, started taking photos and still getting used to the camera. I love photography though so am going back to school next year!

I took this portrait of my sister, I don't have any fancy lights and I wonder if thats why this looks so flat.

Also is the facial retouching too obvious, especially the neck.

Its not cropped, but my framing should have included the feet I think.

The flatness is easily fixed with some color adjuatments in PP. The photo is also very soft. Watch when using a flash up close as they will leave a shadow.

try putting a lamp to a side of her, not directly in front or behind. It should give the photo more depth, also giving it more of a dramatic effect with the shadows. Your viewfinder might not match up with what the sensor is going to capture, so try to shoot a little wide then just crop to what you want it to look like.

Altogether it's a nice photo, and those are awesome pillows

I think you should crop the feet all the way out. I notice your shadow on the bottom of the frame and I think it might be nice if her head was a little more vertical. That is just my personal preference. Nice pic though, love the pillows.

the angle with this pose is a bit awkward, she seems to be in limbo.. try a lower angle, eye level pehaps, or a different pose altogether.
