Default Portraiture of a Friend

Hey so this was my first attempt at a series of portraits of my friend, pictures were taken with a Nikon D40 and 1.8 lens in my photography class studio.

I unfortunately don't have access to any photoshop or anything at the moment, so I am only making minimal post editing changes with windows photo viewer to the best of my abilities :P

Also, I feel that the lighting that I was using was a little too close to my friend in a lot of photos, and couldn't edit the over-exposed parts. (hoping to get photoshop very soon!)

nice shots, like the angles and expressions. in the first one i'm not sure but it kinda looks like one of her eyes is out of focus which should usually be the main focus in portraits. you could probably afford to change the ap a stop or 2 depending on what you were shooting at. in the second and third one the lights are too close like you said so shes a little blown out. keep going though this experience is good you're on the right track.

I'd probabaly try and smooth out her skin a tad. Composition wise its great but its just a hair soft for my taste
