Overall I'd say it's a good start. I feel though like the scare crows are a little distracting, the one on the right competes as the subject to me and them both being partially cut off is bothersome to me. Also the lighting looks pretty even, don't know if you were using two lights at the same power, but I tend to like to put one of my lights at a higher power than the other to give a little more contrast in lighting, just a thought.

In looking at your EXIF, may I ask why you decided on a 1/30 shutter speed? seems rather slow, too much of a chance for motion blur. Were you using some ambient light in addition to the bees?

I agree with sarahgir.

Since your thread leads me to think you used at least 2 strobes, your exposure time, and f/stop seem confusing.

I use to B800's and shoot at 1/160, ISO 200, and usually have one light set around f/8 to f/11, and the other at f/5. With those settings I'll start out with my camera set to f/10.

thank you for your suggestions....i took yall word and set my bees to f/8 on the left hand side and the right to f/5 and then set my camera to ISO 200 and at 1/160. Here is a result of one the pics that i took today for a friend. She was well pleased with them and i have to say so was i!

Did i do better??
I know some of the hat is cropped off but she wanted it in a 8x10 and i forgot to keep some edges around the picture and i had to crop some a lil.....I KNOW - - BAD BAD Photographer!!!

I think it looks better in great multitudes.

I find I get the best results at those light settings. As far as your ISO, you can set that at 100. My D300 only goes down to ISO 200, so thats what I keep both my cameras set to when doing studio work.
