Default Too Close?

Wasn't happy with the perspective of this shot, so cropped it down, thinking I might get away with it. Too close?

Self Portrait

Camera: Canon EOS 450D
Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200

just a little too close for me...if u just zoomed out to get the chin it would work better I think. I like that its close because her eyes are so clear and striking, but the shadow of her hair on the right side of her face brings it down a little.

Default It's just right!

I like it. I am VERY captivated by the eyes. I think the closeness works here.

Default nice eyes

I read somewhere on here that a good rule of thumb is to leave the chin in when you crop...the eyes look great!

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated.

Yes next time I will sort out the shadows by moving the angle of the flash, I agree that the shadow is a little distracting.

I know that it is normal practice to leave a bit of chin in there, but thought I would try something different. Thank you for your opinions. (apologies for not responding sooner, but for some reason I hadn't clicked the subscribe to thread option, so missed the replies!)

Default a small suggestion

I like your picture. I like the sharpness of the eye area. Really good.

I've had to do this before where I perform a super crop. One thing that helped mine was zooming in even further than yours AND applying levels and curves in PS so bright white that detail was lost and all I ended up with were outlines of beautiful eyes nose and lips. Mine looked a little more "on purpose" as a crazy edit, rather than a tightly cropped bad shot. If you try that edit, re-post. I'd like to see how it came out.

i like it.

the chopped chin is a bit of an issue, but i actually don't mind the curl's shadow on the right. in a picture that otherwise is so perfect as to be plain, it adds that point of interest to draw the eye.

where others may see this 'distraction' as a problem, in this case the face is so perfectly plain (physically, technically and emotionally that it benefits from a little 'distraction'. If it weren;t for the shadow it would just be another plain high key face.

if anything for me, the more i look at it, i don't like the width of the crop. it stretches her face. i would probably keep the height constant and add in a fat chunk of space to the left of the image.

With out shadows portraits can come off flat,I like shadows. It's just of matter of controlling what you want.. As for how you cropped the shot, I like what you did.

Default Not close enough!

The eyes are just so clear and intense. I would've liked to see what this shot cropped to where it was just the eyes. I think it would look great that way...but I could be wrong. Good pic anyway though!

Thanks. I might revisit the original and see about cropping it differently. Cheers.
