I think I may be getting the hang of things. I took my d90 out of Auto Mode
. I bought some cheap studio equip off of Craigs List, I got The Morris Company master and slave strobes soft box backdrop stands umbrella a working D40 and a trashed D90 etc. for 100 bucks . It took me a full day to figure out I had to put my flash in M mode so it would not preflash and set off my strobes . Please be brutal with your comments, I am new but I am working hard and learning fast. Thanks ![]() EXIF D90 VR18-105 @ 25mm F/5 1/60 ISO 400 If you would like to help more the rest of the pics are online. Pictures by CaptionsByChris - Photobucket

Thanks.
Yea the foot. That kind of intrigues me at that angle. I know kinda weird but that was one of the reasons I submited this shot.

Hi, I agree about the foot.....it just looks so big it fills the bottom left corner and is pretty distracting, so maybe play with your angles and poses a little more. I also agree if u moved him a little further the bg would have looked better.
The lighting looks good to me especially considering his little hat and overall it is quite sharp, so well done, keep shooting

The lighting has been my biggest challenge so far. I cant adjust the intensity of my strobes so I made some circles out of white cloth that i put over them to soften the light. Are my camera settings right for this shot?

Thanks..
So in keeping with the mario theme here is a shot of zario (his name is Zechariah) shooting a fireball. I know the fireball splashed onto his face. Thats just what happens when you stand to close to one . ![]() EXIF D90 VR18-105 @ 38mm F/5 1/60 ISO 400

Thanks for sharing your pic. cool costume.
The lighting almost seem like it was on-camera flash. I see the the catch light is almost dead center in his pupils which makes the picture kind of flat. That is a reason why people try to avoid on-camera straight flash. Move your lights a bit to the left or right and even up a little. In your second pic you placed your light source low which created a shadow from the mustach on his cheek. I would have moved the lights up higher so the shadow is by his lip. If you want to get your background pure black move your subject further away from it. Also control your light spill onto the background by using light modifiers like grids, softbox, ie. You can also move your lights closer to the subject so less light will spill onto the background. Your pics seem sharp and well exposed. Good job
